Moses and the Shepherd's Staff: Finding Power in What You Already Carry

In our spiritual journeys, it’s easy to overlook the blessings and resources that God has already placed in our hands. Too often, we focus on what we lack instead of recognizing the tools at our disposal that can propel us toward our God-given assignments. Today, we will explore Exodus 4:1-7 to understand how God equips us for our divine purposes, even when we feel inadequate. I want to challenge you with this question: What do you currently have within your reach that can benefit your calling?

God Will Call Your Attention to What You Carry

When God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” He wasn’t just inquiring; He was highlighting the very resource Moses possessed. Often, we overlook what we have, believing it to be insignificant. God wants us to recognize that He has already equipped us for our assignments. Each of us possesses unique gifts, skills, and resources. Yet, we often forget their value, focusing instead on what we don’t have.

This week, I encourage you to take an inventory of your life. What abilities and resources do you currently have that can support your assignment? Whether it’s skills, connections in your community, or even your own story, these elements are crucial to fulfilling your purpose.

Obedience is Key, Even Without Understanding

Moses was overwhelmed and insecure about his assignment. He questioned God, “What if they don’t believe me?” However, God required Moses to obey, even when he didn’t fully understand the purpose behind His commands - demonstrating that obedience is often more important than understanding.
In your life, there will be moments when God asks you to step out in faith without clear directions. It’s easy to hesitate, thinking we need more time or resources. However, it’s essential to respond immediately to God’s call. Our obedience has the power to change lives, including our own.

Our obedience to God is not dependent on our understanding. Like Moses, we must act on God’s instructions, regardless of how inadequate we feel.

God Will Repurpose Your Resources

As Moses obeyed, he discovered that his shepherd's staff—once just a tool for guiding sheep—was transformed into a powerful instrument for delivering a nation. God has the ability to repurpose the resources we already possess for new and incredible purposes.
Imagine how your life could change if you allowed God to redefine the tools you carry. What once seemed irrelevant or insufficient can become extraordinary in God’s hands.

Conclusion

Remember that you have everything you need to fulfill your calling. Look around you, assess what you carry, and take action. Your obedience matters—your response to God can impact not just your life but the lives of countless others waiting for their deliverance.

Let’s commit to recognizing and utilizing what we already have. God is ready to transform our ordinary tools into extraordinary means for His purpose. Are you ready to step forward in faith?
